Collection documentation

The Collection has been consistently documented since its inception. The original card and slide catalogue was compiled by our archivist Elspeth Pearson. Since her retirement the catalogue has been gradually transferred to a digitised database

The development of the digitised catalogue has resulted in a database of approximately 9000 entries containing all the available details including provenance and an image of each work. This is an ongoing process which will significantly increase access to the collection.

Conservation

The works are housed in a fire-rated, climate-controlled storage room to ensure the maximum longevity of the collection. Each year several fragile or endangered items are highlighted for conservation.

Collection staff observe preventive conservation techniques at all times, minimising any harm to collection items, however resources currently limit our ability to conduct as much preservation of artworks as we would like. Steps are currently being made towards relocating to a purpose built storage facility.
